At Pebbles we like to celebrate different festivals from different cultures and talk to the children about these. Our children are currently making things for Chinese new year. This year it is the year of the rat
.

We all had a lovely break and now we are back having fun at nursery in 2020. Our Pre-School room has been looking at Shapes and Numbers.
We had such a lovely time at our Christmas fair. The children were engaged in many different Christmas activities, as well as having a go on the bouncy castle and trying their luck on the tombola. The adults enjoyed browsing the stalls, purchasing last minute Christmas presents or spoiling themselves! We even had a visit from Santa himself, who brought presents for the children and chatted to the children in our grotto. We offered sessions by our special guest, ‘The Bug Lady,’ who showed a variety of interesting creatures and insects. Our pre-school children performed a fantastic carol service and even used sign language to accompany their final song.
We’re feeling very Christmassy with our Christmas decorations and festive wall displays around the nursery. The children are having a great time getting involved in the Christmas activities and messy play. We love singing along to our Christmas songs whilst we are busy playing too!
The pre-school children love our new sensory box writing tablets!
We’ve loved raising money for Children in Need. The children and staff dressed in the colour yellow or in Pudsey outfits for the week. We baked and sold the buns in aid of the charity and we took part in Children in Need activities and messy play. We managed to raise a lot for this great charity.
We take Remembrance Day very seriously and our pre-school children seemed to grasp the thoughtfulness around this time especially. We walked to the cenotaph in our park and watched the poppy wreath being laid. We also took part in the two-minute’s silence. The children came back to nursery and created their own Remembrance display artwork.
We always go outside no matter what the weather but during severe weather conditions, when we are limited, we still encourage children to do some physical activity indoors. Our Ducklings children had fun exploring the tents and tunnels, whilst our Dragonflies and pre-school children played parachute games.
We have loved creating our own interpretations of fireworks this week! The babies have enjoyed mark making in coloured sand with glitter to symbolise the fireworks, the toddlers have explored moving the paint on the table to create firework shapes and our Bumblebees children have worked hard with the adults to blow through straws, moving the paint like shooting fireworks. The pre-school children have created a fabulous display, of their own firework creations.
Children on the downstairs floor have thoroughly enjoyed collecting autumn leaves and conkers on walks and then using the natural materials to create a beautiful autumnal painting. We also opened up a pumpkin for the children to explore and added some paint and autumn leaves to extend the sensory creative activity.
Our Pre-School room children showed great interest in Halloween and then Bonfire night. Most of our children had been out and about with family and came to nursery buzzing with excitement about they had been doing. These are the displays they created.
Our older children went to the library to listen to some ‘spooky stories’ and then returned to Pebbles to make our very own spiders. The Ladybirds and Ducklings children visited the pumpkin Halloween display in our Nunroyd Park then returned to paint their own pumpkin faces.
